Speed Comparison
NordVPN is 4 percentage points faster than ExpressVPN in our ratings. On our 487 Mbps baseline:
- NordVPN (NordLynx): 433 Mbps download, 412 Mbps upload, 12ms latency - 89% retention
- ExpressVPN (Lightway): 414 Mbps download, 389 Mbps upload, 14ms latency - 85% retention
Realistically, you won't feel the 19 Mbps gap while streaming or gaming; both clear those bars with room to spare. It only starts to matter on a slower home line, where NordVPN's few extra percentage points of retention translate into a bit more usable bandwidth.
Streaming Comparison
ExpressVPN wins streaming with 20+ Netflix libraries vs NordVPN's 15+. Both unblock all major platforms (Disney+, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, Prime, DAZN). The difference is in regional Netflix catalog breadth - ExpressVPN accesses more niche markets like Latin America and Southeast Asia.
Our Verdict
NordVPN is the better choice for most users. It's faster, cheaper ($3.09 vs $6.67), offers more features (Threat Protection, Double VPN, 10 devices), and still handles streaming well with 15+ Netflix libraries. The only reason to choose ExpressVPN is if you specifically need the widest possible streaming access or prefer its app design.
